Microsoft Office Documents Containing Pictures – Powerpoint Presentations, Word Doc., etc.

  • Pictures can dramatically increase the file size of your documents. To save network space and reduce download times, you should compress all the pictures within your documents. Compressing a picture makes the color take up fewer bits per pixel, with no loss of quality.

How to Compress Pictures saved within Microsoft Office Programs:

    1. Double click on a picture within your document, which opens the Format Picture window. Click Compress, which opens the Compress Pictures window.

    2. In the Compress Picture window choose the following options:
      • Apply to:  All pictures in document
      • Change resolution: Web/Screen
      • Options: Compress pictures and Delete cropped areas of pictures
      • Click OK to apply

    3. Save changes to document. Do not "save as" and rename, creating a duplicate of the file.
