Kristine Pitera – Assistant Principal, Selden Middle School

  • I grew up in Orange County, NY and graduated from Minisink Valley High School. From there I went to Dominican College in Blauvelt, NY and earned my Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Economics and Business. I stepped into the business world at JP Morgan Chase for a few years until I decided to pursue a career in education. I went to Adelphi University and got my Master’s degree with an advanced certification for students with disabilities.

For the past 10 years, I have been a special education teacher at Islip High School where I taught Resource Room, co-teaching sections and self-contained classes. My administrative training took place at Molloy College, where I developed and honed my leadership skills. I earned a Master of Science degree in Childhood Education and an Advanced Certification in Special Education from Adelphi University in addition to a degree in Adolescent Education.

The decision to transition to administration stemmed from my desire to have a broader impact on the school community.  As Assistant Principal, I am committed to carrying out the vision and mission of Selden Middle School. This role allows me to work closely with teachers while still staying connected to student learning and growth. I am also dedicated to continuous professional growth and to ensuring educational equity and access for all students.
